Hear The Bewitching First Single From Weyes Blood’s New EP

Fall in love with her voice all over again.

Last time we heard from New York-based singer-songwriter Weyes Blood, she was strolling the windy beaches of the Far Rockaways and Long Island, clad in a long black cape and singing about intoxicating, toxic love. Like "Bad Magic" before it (and the drone-shot clip we'll always remember it by), this just-released new single from the GEN F alum feels primed for those quiet, alone moments in which we contemplate the gaps left behind by other people. This time around, though, her athletic alto sounds more up-close than it has before, cozying up to the mic like it's another person's ear as she remembers a departed lover by the cardamom he used to slip in her coffee in the morning.

Cardamom Times, her just-announced new EP, is out in October via Mexican Summer. It was recorded at Mering's home studio on Rockaway Beach, on reel to reel tape, which probably has something to do with how simultaneously big and small "Cardomom" sounds. As Shane Bulter, her friend from New England psych-folk unit Quilt, described the collection to The FADER via email, "Weyes Blood’s newest foray, Cardomom Times, alters tropes of classicist folk arrangements with echo chambers, flutes, keyboards, and manipulated tapes to locate 'timeless romance’ in the face of digital envelopment and urban decay." Album art and Weyes Blood tour dates below.
