Earlier this week, DJ Mustard went on Twitter and suggested that Iggy Azalea and Jidenna had both stolen his style. He recently called into Hot 97's Ebro In The Morning to put those comments in context. Right off the bat he declared, "I'm not hating." He also said he has no intention of suing anybody.
But the producer added, "I just felt like it was a rip, and it is a rip." "I'm well aware that I took from everybody," he continued, "but those are my elders, that's what I'm supposed to do." Mustard believes the difference between his rips and Azalea's is the source material: he's bringing the past into the present.
Mustard explained this with a food metaphor. "Think about it like this," he told Ebro. "If your great-great-great-great-grandmother made a family recipe which was fucking macaroni and cheese or whatever, and then your grandma after that and your mom started making it, it's going to change up in the midst of that. It's not going to stay the exact same. They might add their little flavor. But that's just where I come from."
