19-year-old Liverpudlian Låpsley—aka Holly Fletcher—is preparing to release her debut album on XL Recordings, and has just shared its latest cut,"Hurt Me." Way more stripped-back than her usual choppy electronic soul, this one sees her crystal-clear voice orbit steady piano chords and sparse flickers of vocal sample as she commands you, if you're gonna hurt me, why don't you me a little bit more? It's bitter because it speaks so plainly to the pain of watching a relationship bleed out; and yet so sweet in its shiver-inducing echoes of her labelmate Adele's early material.
