A$AP Rocky is New York City’s most recognizable young rapper at the moment, so it’s only right that he got a chance to play songs on The Tonight Show, New York’s bastion of late night entertainment. Rocky's new album, A.L.L.A., stretches out for 18 songs, meaning he had a lot of tracks to choose from. The rapper decided to play “L$D”—Jimmy Fallon clarified that he wasn’t performing on LSD, at least as far as we know—and “Jukebox Joints.”
A.L.L.A. often evokes late '60s garage rock and psychedelic pop, so working with the Roots for a live performance was an easy fit. The MC crooned his sensual ballad, “L$D,” sitting on a bed surrounded by ghostly fake flames, while the Roots’ guitarist, Kirk Douglas, strummed gentle riffs. Then Rocky clambered to his feet for the soul-sampling “Jukebox Joints” (which featured Kanye West on record). The track's hook is searching: “Who will lean if I fall?” But ultimately Rocky isn’t too worried: “never mind, I'm fly you know.”
