Afropunk announced part of its NYC lineup today, and it’s a doozy, bringing together stars from the last four decades—Grace Jones, Lenny Kravitz, Lauryn Hill, Kelis—as well as an impressive roster of youngsters: Kaytranada, Brenmar, Raury, Lion Babe, Curtis Harding, Danny Brown, and more. The festival will take place on August 22 and 23 in Commodore Barry park in Brooklyn.

A few things are different this year, including the inclusion of the first ever Afropunk Fancy Dress Ball, which will take place on August 21. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Afropunk Global Initiative, "an alliance dedicated to moving the needle of progress closer to a holistic, democratic and enlightened representation of people of color within all facets of society." Jones, Cakes Da Killa, and MikeQ will be some of the special guests at the Ball.

The other major difference between this year’s Afropunk and past iterations of the festival is the ticketing system. Due to the popularity of the event in recent years, attendees are now required to buy tickets or obtain them through an “earned ticket program,” which involves participating in "low barrier volunteer activities and projects for youth to complete in exchange for a ticket."
