It was wild.
This past Saturday night, Los Angeles turned up for #EMERGE, a party soundtracked by Travi$ Scott and a slew of other rappers thrown by The FADER, Samsung Milk Music and All Def Digital. By the time Scott was a handful of tracks deep into his surprise headlining set, he had already climbed the scaffolding framing the stage, had the audience up there with him, dancing and diving off—perfectly timed with his Young Thug collaboration "Skyfall"—and gone shirtless after shedding his puffer jacket. It was a sticky night at The Well, and everyone was finding their own ways to beat the heat. For most people, that meant cooling off with ice cold House Beer in the patio area, or flipping through copies of FADER's photo issue in the air-conditioned storefront.
Earlier in the night, Atlanta MC Rome Fortune, Chicago rapper-singer Frank Leone, Bay Area R&B chanteuse Janel Marrise, NYC rapper Topaz Jones, and pop-deconstructionist SPZRKT warmed up the stage for Scott. Not to mention, OG Maco played a surprise set. The Atlanta rapper popped up to reprise his verse on Frank Leone's "4 Seasons" and stuck around for a few songs. In the crowd, there was another exciting guest: ADD52 co-founder Russell Simmons, who could be seen bobbing his head to tracks by Rae Sremmurd, Drake, and OT Genasis between sets. All night long, there wasn't a still person in the room.
