HELM Debuts The Exquisite Title Track Of His Sixth Album, Olympic Mess

Listen out for the full album via Berlin’s PAN label.

May 28, 2015

London producer HELM has been releasing an album nearly every year since 2008. His latest, Olympic Mess, will be his second on Berlin's exquisitely eared PAN label, and his sixth in total. 6 is a pretty special digit, especially to the Ancient Greeks, who recognized it as a "perfect number," since when all of its divisors—1, 2 and 3—are added together, they equal 6. That sense of completeness, that loop back into itself, is a lot like the experience of listening to the title track of Olympic Mess. Strands of sound rain down like digits in the digital ether, soaking the senses in a feeling of well-being.

"This track was basically built out of a loop I started playing around with in my live sets," HELM told The FADER, "and then the general structure of it was developed and solidified whilst on tour with Iceage in the last couple of months of 2014. It formed a sort of 'centerpiece' for the live set, so it seemed appropriate that its appearance within the album mirrored that. It's also very much a product of being 'on the road,' which ended up having quite a substantial influence on the album as a whole." PAN will release HELM's new album Olympic Mess on June 15th.
