Update 5/12/15 12:00 p.m.: A rep for Kanye West has clarified that will not be starring in Chiraq as was originally rumored, but is in discussions to be involved in the film's soundtrack, "schedule permitting," according to a statement obtained by Pitchfork.
Kanye West is expanding the film section of his résumé yet again — this time with a role in Spike Lee's upcoming musical comedy Chiraq. Based on the Greek battle-of-the-sexes comedy Lysistrata, where women withhold sex from their husbands in order to stop a war, the film is centered around one woman's attempt to end gang violence in the city. West has been cast alongside Jennifer Hudson, Sam Jackson, and John Cusack, Screen Daily reports. The film, which will be an Amazon Original and also receive a theatrical release, is not without controversy. As Pitchfork points out, many people have objected to the title, including Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel who sat down with Lee to discuss it last month.
