Austin, TX producer Eric Dingus specializes in a strain of ambient screw music that's tough to pin down. He made in-roads with the cloud rap crowd early, producing dream-screen tunes for Main Attrakionz and Jimmy Johnson, who helped bring Dingus into the OVO fold and landed him a placement on Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late. Today, the 20-year-old delivers a mix of all original works titled "Lavender's Theme," that funnels Illmatic acapellas through cotton-candy synths. He also loves bacon, so we know we can trust him.
Where are you right now? Describe your surroundings. I am in my room, sitting on a king bed, with my girlfriend and our friend, watching Netflix whilst I listen to headphones.
What did you open and close this mix with, and why? I opened this with a short tune I made a couple years back. I feel it captures the feeling I wanted to feel through out the whole mix. It's titled "Lavender's Theme," serving as the theme of a character in a world I thought of called "Lavender Wakes."
What's the last thing you read that had an impact on you? I would say this article I read about a director i have a lot of respect for, Takashi Miike. It just mentioned some good films I hadn't seen before that were cool to check out.
What's the first concert you went to? I don't remember exactly, the first concert I paid for was The Sword opening for Motorhead when I was 14.
What's your favorite thing to cook, and how do you make it? To be 100% honest, bacon. It's fun to eat as you finish each strip of bacon.
