Venus X Turns A Ballroom Sample Into A Sultry Club Track On “Golden Girl”
It’s the first of six tracks that GHE20G0TH1K are giving away in the lead-up to their May 2nd event.
Beautiful, gorgeous, golden girl, repeats a male voice with a stately tone in the intro to Venus X's "Golden Girl," before icy chimes and sultry brass wrap themselves around the speaker. The NYC DJ, producer, and GHE20G0TH1K promoter produced the track for Hood By Air's SS15 show, Superego, where she and Kuwaiti producer Fatima Al Qadiri had performed a live set together to celebrate HBA's first women's collection.
"I went into the studio with a bunch of tracks I wanted to sample," Venus X told The FADER. "Mike Q had given me an edit of DJ Fatha Julez's 'Beautiful Gorgeous Golden Girl' ballroom track and then my engineer Dirty Danny showed me this track he heard at Disneyland with his daughter called 'Madzoub.' We chopped it up on to the keyboard and I played it out of order over and over until I found a new sequence and that was really the part that made it come to life. The song is a soundtrack for a really special moment for HBA and for me about being a girl, a golden girl—the insane experience of pressure, excitement and elegance, of being pulled in every direction, especially down, while still having the time of your life."
