Watch Robyn’s Protégé Zhala Take A Glittery Trip Through L.A.
The Stockholm artist parodies celebrity excess in “Holy Bubbles” video.
Zhala has her tongue firmly in her cheek in the video for "Holy Bubbles," the latest single from her forthcoming, self-titled debut album on Swedish superstar Robyn's Konichiwa Records. The latter has often been vocal about not playing by pop's rules, and now her protégé is going straight for the jugular with this acid-laced parody of celebrity culture. With a witty glint in her eye, she dances in a desert, writhes on a motorbike, and cuts loose in the club—all set to the seductive call of big dance-pop chords and a recurring melody that points to her Kurdish roots. "The song is about wanting more, no apologies, letting go, and moving on to something bigger," Zhala told The FADER. "That lust and passion we have to move forward faster—it's not really anything specific, just passion." Konichiwa Records will release Zhala's self-titled debut album on May 25th.
