Holly Herndon Battles A Digital Avalanche In New Video
“Interference” is the latest single from the American artist’s much anticipated second album, Platform.
One of the big events of 2015 in electronic music is already looking to be the release of American artist Holly Herndon's second album, Platform. Following videos for "Home" and "Chorus," the video for new single "Interference"—directed by Dutch design studio Metahaven with help from UK artist/musician/programmer Mat Dryhurst—is an entrancing collage, punctuated by a striking shot of two arms struggling to maintain their grip amidst layers of imagery, simulated ads, and on-screen lyrics—all competing for your attention. A look at those lyrics will give you a good sense of the themes she's dealing with on the album: how the inequality and surveillance of the digital age have made the personal political, and how an exit from the situation can be found. RVNG Intl and 4AD are joint-releasing the LP, and they've announced that it will see release on May 19th; the tracklist can be found below.
