Update 3/11/15 3:45 p.m.: Morning Joe's Mika Brzezinski attempted to clarify her earlier comments—which, put gently, seemed to draw a parallel between rap lyrics and SAE's racist chants—MSNBC's The Cycle this afternoon. Speaking with host Ari Melber and Al Sharpton, she said that "the students in the video are responsible for their behavior" and that Waka Flocka Flame is "in no way to blame for what happened on that bus." She added: "On another point, there may be a good conversation to have out there about rap music, hip-hop and lyrics and use of the N word and whether or not it should be allowed to be used on where, in what form and what platform." Update 3/11/15: Last night on CNN, Waka Flocka Flame spoke candidly about his disgust and disappointment in the University of Oklahoma's SAE frat. "I really felt like I was a frat boy when I was down in the woods, I really felt like I was down with the fraternity, like I was SAE," he said, recalling a show he performed for the frat last year. "I really can't blame the kids, I feel like that's passed down."
MSNBC's Morning Joe hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, however, aren't buying it. On this morning's show, they explored the idea that Waka Flocka Flame's music might be in part to blame for the frat's disgusting actions? "If you look at every single song, I guess you call these, that [Waka Flocka's] written, it's a bunch of garbage," Mika said. "It's full of n-words, it's full of f-words. It's wrong. And he shouldn't be disgusted with them, he should be disgusted with himself." Joe agreed: "The kids that are buying hip hop or gangster rap, it's a white audience, and they hear this over and over again. So do they hear this at home? Waka Flocka Flame—a principled man—has cancelled his upcoming show at the University of Oklahoma's Sigma Alpha Epsilon after learning that the school's Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity was caught on tape chanting racial slurs. "All races partying having a good time and enjoying themselves together peacefully. That's what Waka Flocka is all about," he wrote on Instagram, signing off with: "Racism is something I will not tolerate."
