Last night, in a intimate affair staged two weeks after all of the hubbub of
New York Fashion Week, Vashtie Kola debuted her new capsule collection for Puma. The presentation—inspired by b-boy culture and late '70s, early 80s NYC style—featured a a runway show, live-spray painting moment by Kunle Martin bka Earsnot of the IRAK graffitti squad and a break dance battle by the legendary Crazy Legs and Jiggz of the Rock Steady Crew. "As a child I was drawn toward skate boarding and alternative music and looked to PUMA for fashion trends," says Kola. "I'm excited to create this collection that pays homage to my childhood and New York's underground scene."
Bringing the entire night together was a eight-look unisex collection of mesh tanks, gilded sweatshirts, and track pants that referenced Puma's past and Kola's bright design future all at once. Although KOLA worked on the sneaker and apparel line for over two years, there was an ease and effortlessness to the collection, with its baggy fits and timeless shapes. Check out every look from the collection below, and break your neck watching Jiggz and Crazy Legs tear up the dance floor for old time's sake.
