Over the years, Scarlett Johansson has made a couple of major forays into the music world with a Pete Yorn collaboration and a Tom Waits cover album, but this time it seems like things are going to be a little different. Instead of the staid folky explorations of the past, she's decided to team up with HAIM's Este Haim, folk singer Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris, and Julia Haltigan for a self-described "super-pop" band. According to an interview with Rolling Stone, this new project will be called the Singles and will draw inspiration from the Bangles, the Go-Gos and Grimes.
The first single "Candy" largely follows through on those claims, pulling together several decades of neon-tinted synth-pop into self-aware love song that uses sweet foods as an extended metaphor. Johansson's former collaborator Dave Sitek (also of TV on the Radio) produces again on this track and you can stream it over at Rolling Stone.
