Curl Up With Egyptrixx And HSY’s Soothing Side Project, ANAMAI
The Toronto producer and the noise-punk singer make sweet music together.
Hot on the heels of his phenomenal FADER Mix, Toronto producer Egyptrixx has once again teamed up with Anna Mayberry of noise-punk outfit HSY for the debut album of their experimental folk side-project, ANAMAI. It's called Sallows and, if "Half" is anything to go by, is the kind of record one can curl up in to find refuge from the bleak winter air. There's a touch of Grouper to the way Mayberry's words stretch and recline, hanging in the air like plumes of smoke, yet the prevailing mood is one of warmth—you can almost hear her eyes flashing with mischief and mystery.
"This is a hazy pre-love song," Mayberry told The FADER. "It's about lying next to each other without touching. It's about biking to their house every night at midnight just to sit together in the attic. It's deep gutting embarrassment, and the sharp edge of trust, the slip through apathy, and most of all it's about the wait. This is one of the few songs on the record that I wrote in the summer, and it always makes me think of that slow-mo feel the city takes on in a heat wave." Buzz Records will release ANAMAI's debut album, Sallows, on March 10.
