London producer Digital Farm Animals, or DFA for short, slinks into 2015 with "Didn't Know," a low-key synth-funk tease featuring velveteen-voiced R&B singer Yasmin. A suitable soundtrack for a late night cruise, the song draws heavily from '90s R&B with a pitched vocal sample, courtesy of Yasmin, and employs an old-is-new tempo browed from vintage dance music. "I was experimenting with some quiet down-tempo ideas, inspired melodically by classic '90s R&B, with a sampled feel, and then decided to speed the track up to 115, which automatically gave it a more shuffling type of feel," DFA tells The FADER. "I think it's a tempo that's quite overlooked in modern electronic music." This is DFA's first drop of the year, and certainly not his last; keep an eye on him here.
