UPDATE 1/27/15 10:13 a.m.: TMZ reports that if Wayne successfully leaves Cash Money, he plans on taking his Young Money charges Drake and Nicki Minaj with him. In fact, if this lawsuit goes through, Wayne plans on fighting for all of his Young Money artists to break with Birdman's label. Wayne's claim to legitimacy here is that their contracts are with Young Money—but here's the rub: Cash Money has a distribution deal with all of Young Money's artists, too. Stay tuned...
Settlement talks between Lil Wayne and Birdman have broken down, with Wayne set to sue the Cash Money boss for $8 million, TMZ reports.
The rift between Wayne and Baby (pictured above in the happier days of 2009) has been widening ever since Wayne took to Twitter in December to accuse his former mentor of refusing to release Tha Carter V. Wayne's manager Cortez Bryant also went off at Cash Money on Instagram earlier this month, declaring "Once we unlock these chains it's on Young Money!"
According to TMZ, out-of-court negotiations between the two camps have failed, and Lil Wayne is now preparing to sue Birdman for the $8 million album advance he is reportedly owed.
While Tha Carter V feels almost further away than ever, though, Wayne did drop his Sorry 4 The Wait 2 mixtape this week. So, there's that, at least!
