Sevdaliza Knows Exactly Why You’re Looking For “That Other Girl”
The Dutch singer/producer delivers a sparse but seductive critique on the first single from her forthcoming EP, The Suspended Kid.
When we last checked in with Rotterdam-based singer/producer Sevdaliza it was for her "Sirens Of The Caspian" video, which caught our ear for its "brooding bass, languid trap stylings and husky tone." Those elements continue to be hard at work in the new track The FADER's premiering today—entitled "That Other Girl," produced by fellow Dutch artist Mucky—and yet the result is something a whole lot sparser.
Lyrically she addresses the endless cycle of consumerist culture and how that can affect personal relationships. "When I wrote this song I tried to understand mine and others assumptions on how we welcome entertainment until we're satisfied and move on," Sevdaliza explained in an email to The FADER. "[We're] robotically drawn back into position, waiting for the next call. Where time is a flat circle, creativity stifles and nothing changes." Check out the track below and be on the lookout for its release on her forthcoming EP The Suspended Kid, due on January 28.
