Mike Huckabee Calls Jay Z A “Pimp,” Beyoncé A “Sex Object”
Huckabee needs to have a seat.
Failed Presidential candidate, amateur musician, one-time talk show host, and human jelly donut Mike Huckabee has a new book coming out, the ridiculously titled God, Guns, Grits and Gravy. US News & World Report has published some of the book's more notable excerpts—including a chapter title that doubles as a truly despicable prison-rape joke—but perhaps the most, uh, curious statement comes when he decides to wax gender-political on Beyoncé's performance of "Drunk in Love" with Jay Z at last year's Grammys:
"...Beyonce is incredibly talented – gifted, in fact. She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer – without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom. Jay-Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?"
There is obviously some seriously fucked up coded racism in referring to Jay Z as a "pimp"—and that's without getting into his robbing Beyoncé of any decision-making agency by assuming that her husband, a guest performer by all rights on "Drunk in Love," is the one exploiting her on her own material. It is possible that Huckabee needs a trip to the chair store, so he can purchase and effectively take a seat, possibly for good.
Anyway! Watch the very great Grammys performance of "Drunk in Love" above, and just for the sake of comparison of musical proficiency, watch Huckabee play some boring-ass music on his bass like a goddamn chump below.
UPDATE 1/20/15 1:47 p.m.: Well, ol' Huck appeared on The Daily Show last night and got properly washed for his stupid-as-shit comments on Beyoncé and Jay Z. Watch below—start at 2:00 for the Bey-and-Jay talk.
UPDATE 1/22/15 1:20 p.m.: This just won't end, will it. HuckabeyoncéGate continued today on The View when the Stay-Puft replica politician appeared to promote the aforementioned book that you're not going to read because you're better than that—and, surprise surprise, former Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams appeared to defend her former co-worker. Well, sort of. Just watch the clip, over at Gawker.
