Danny Brown has a new, rather unexpected project on deck: a children's book. Speaking with Australian radio station triple j, he explained that he's sought inspiration in Dr. Seuss books, as well as his daughter. "It's really about self-esteem in black girls, I guess," he explained. "You know how black women do so much—process their hair, change their eye color—it's really about a little girl who does all these things to herself and changes herself and she realizes she's just better off the way she is."
In addition to the book, he's been busy "recording like a maniac" for the follow-up to 2013's excellent Old—as well as battling the woodland creatures that inhabit his yard. "If you park in my driveway they hide the walnuts inside your car if you park too long," he said. "I was like, 'I'm going to get rid of this walnut tree I don't want this guerrilla chipmunk problem' [but] then I Googled it and it was 'oh man, it takes like 50 years for walnuts to even start growing. I'm like 'ah man, it's like history right here!' I gotta hold the chipmunks down. I'd feel so bad, I'd be messing up their community." Sounds like the seeds for another book, eh?
