On a cold and rainy December night, we hung with Trey Songz as the Virginia-born artist got ready for his 30th birthday dinner in New York City. Trey—coming off the release of his sixth studio album, Trigga, which earned him a No.1 hit on the Billboard R&B charts—spoke candidly about a number of things while prepping for his big night, like the role his mother played in his success and where he hopes he'll be when the next mile-marker comes around. "I just realize how blessed I am to have reached the age of 30, first of all," he says in the video, which is part of our ongoing Earlier That Day series. "A lot of black men don't see that age—a lot of black men where I'm from. If they do see that age, they're behind bars or in bad situations. This is a blessing. I feel like I'm walking into the best part of my life."
