The Neighbourhood have recently paired with Danny Brown and Raury; next up, the California five-piece's teamed with French Montana for a "#icanteven," an echo chamber of synth-organ and heartbreak. The song borrows the semi-satirical hashtag used to denote a state of speechlessness, often owing to a rush of inscrutable emotion—but the song actually draws inspiration from a moment when vocalist and frontman Jesse Rutherford was feeling particularly articulate. "I actually had a different vocal for it originally, but didn't really like what I had. So I went back into the studio with them right after I found out my girlfriend had cheated on me," Rutherford explained in an email to FADER. "I had some subject matter, so that's kind of what the song turned into." So technically, he can even—misleading title aside, though, all's forgiven, as this song's a catchy one. "#icanteven" is the latest single off The Neighbourhood's upcoming mixtape, #000000 & #FFFFFF (HTML code for black and white); it will be available for download on Monday.
