Next spring, Tobias Jesso Jr. will release his debut album on True Panther. There's a lot of buzz around the singer-songwriter, particularly for someone who hasn't released a single bit of studio-recorded material—until now. His album's first single, "Hollywood," is 6-minute ballad about getting by—or trying to—in the titular Los Angeles community: I don't know if I'll make it and I don't know if I should/ I think I'll say goodbye to Hollywood. It's evocative of a timeless-feeling sorrow that reminds me of the slower songs that populate Girls' second (and final) full-length, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, which is extra relevant considering the song was recorded with ex-Girls member Chet "JR" White. The record, still unnamed and sans release date, also includes assistance from producers-of-the-moment Ariel Rechtshaid and Patrick Carney. For more, watch Jesso Jr.'s memorably intimate La Blogothèque session from earlier this fall.
