Tinashe Gets “Jealous” With Nick Jonas Remix

Nick Jonas' solo career has been weird. The 22-year-old Disney-pop expat kicked off his music-making exploits ten years ago—a full two years before he joined up with the Brothers Joe and Kevin for the Jonas Brothers' debut LP, It's About Time—with the bargain-bin Christian pop curio Nicholas Jonas. 2010 brought Who I Am, his record with backing band the Administration (which, curiously included members of Prince's the New Power Generation) that served as a continuation of the Jonas Brothers' fan-shrieking power-pop; his self-titled third effort, out next week, takes cues from modern R&B sounds (sure enough, he's cited Frank Ocean and the Weeknd as influences in recent interviews).

First single "Chains" possessed murky environs that typically befit the Weeknd, the just-dropped "Teacher" embodies the type of strident disco-pop that was found on Pharrell's solo album from earlier this year, G I R L, and album cut "Numb" possesses a feature from Angel Haze; but second single "Jealous" is Jonas' crowning jewel to date, a pulsing, purple song with production that literally screams in the background and Jonas' vocals riding the rhythm in a manner not unlike R&B auteur Miguel. The whole thing sounds contemporary as fuck, so it makes total sense that Tinashe, who just released one of the best albums in the genre this year, would lace the track with a verse offering a feminine perspective on relationship envy. As a particularly unique "Jonas bonus" (sorry), Nick uses the remix as an opportunity to tweak the chorus and make room for an f-bomb or two. This isn't kids' stuff anymore!
