A meeting a long time coming, Young Thug and Lil Wayne finally connect on "Take Kare." A slow banger produced by London On Da Track, it's a slurry, word drunk ramble in which Thugga and Wayne promise to take kare of their respective Kim Ks. Of course, Young Thug has never been shy about the influence Wayne's had on him as a rapper—and in every other way, too. From his FADER #90 cover story:
But it’s also a product of his early fandom of Lil Wayne, whom he credits with teaching him to love words, to love maneuvering and manipulating them. “That’s my idol,” he says of Wayne. “Everything he do.” The influence is most obvious on Thug’s first mixtape, I Came from Nothing: there’s that familiar, nasal intonation on the vowels, softening and widening words so that, for example, “y’all” sounds like “yeow.”
And now, perhaps Wayne has something to learn from Thug, too. "Take Kare" is supposedly an early lead single off the Rich Gang 2 compilation. Plus, take a close look at this artwork, as it looks mighty familiar.
