Clark Turns In “The Grit in the Pearl,” a Shimmeringly Grey Track off His Forthcoming LP
The album is self-titled and will be out on Warp November 3rd.
“Shimmeringly grey” might sound like an incongruous descriptor, but Clark does a solid job of bringing it to life on new track “The Grit In The Pearl,” off his forthcoming self-titled LP on Warp, due November 3. Indeed, a pearl with grit on it would probably have that exact hue, so cheers to Clark for this painterly stroke. The tune is equal parts LP5-era Autechre—with its melodies tossed into entropy, caught somewhere between what sounds like unquantitized improvisation and careful programming—and evil-seeming, zonked club music. And it’s all coated in that grey, evocative of leftfield dance music contemporaries like Lee Gamble and Actress. If people are fiending for more IDM-zoned digital confusion post-Syro, this isn’t a bad place to turn. Clark's also playing a couple of US dates, scope them below.
