Sure, we could (and do) talk endlessly about the clothes we love, but for our column, Line Item, we ask some of our favorite designers to tell us what they think about the best pieces from their newest collections. For a new seven piece collaboration with Young & Reckless, A$AP Ferg has drawn up a range of t-shirts, jerseys, and bucket hats in white, purple, black and gold inspired by infamous alias Trap Lord available at PacSun. Today, we got the former fashion major to talk about his inspirations, style and influences.
A$AP Ferg: For the Young & Reckless collection, I drew a lot from my history. I've always been interested in clothes; I attended high school Art and Design and majored in fashion. I've always seen Ralph Lauren as my style icon. Before I started rapping I designed and sold my own line of leather belts. This collection represents of my life thus far. You’ll see Trap Lord, Hood Pope and A$AP Mob influences in the gear. I wanted to put my entire sense of style and fashion into the collection. My favorite piece in the collection is the bulletproof vest, I never saw a purple camouflage bulletproof vest before. It was inspired by Dipset's street team, Purple City Byrd Gang. I used to see them selling CDs in my neighborhood wearing purple camo. The collage face tee is inspired by the t-shirt Birdman had on in the "What Happened To That Boy" video. I wear a lot of t-shirts, I always change them after performances so those are the items from the line I end up wearing every day. When we started designing I wanted to make sure every piece had a part of me in it, it's a really personal collection.
