Jam City has dropped EARTHLY III, his third in a series of terrestrial mixtapes that froth experimental genre blends into extremely listenable confections. The Night Slugs-affiliated producer quietly dropped the link via Twitter this morning, and it's been hard to stop listening since then. EARTHLY III is my favorite so far, if only for its sheer range: there's echoing teases of metal, metallic shrieks and grinds, songs that sound like songs and probably are songs but are pitch-shifted and warped past the point of Google-ability. Obscure vocal snippets, French rap, and fragments of '80s Americana subtly transfigured by shifting electronic undercurrents fit together like some kind of eight-dimensional puzzle. Listen below, and keep your eyes peeled for EARTHLY IV.
