Jim Jones & Rowdy Rebel Link for “Still Reppin’ Time”

Jim Jones' "Reppin Time" was the B-side tucked behind his smash hit "We Fly High," and was probably his greatest contribution since. Over a slopped Cam'ron sample and a Miami sun-soaked beat from The Runners, Jim stretched his animated ad-libs to their brink--my lawyers! vyooooom! beeep beeeeeeeeep!--and diddy-bopped his way through court dates in true Harlem tradition. It's one of my favorite joints to come out of his solo streak, and although Harlem hasn't exactly stuck together in recent months, some bi-borough, cross-gen collaboration has produced a charming sequel. "Still Reppin Time" finds Jim Jones deep in GS9 trenches: Since a youngin' I been rowdy with it, cut my hair now police be thinkin' Rowdy did it, he spits, saluting the latest incarnation of the braided right-hand man to ride for his crew. Rowdy Rebel holds his own as well, a pre-school bully snatching lunch money with a scraggly, drooling New York voice. The cut would be more fun if they had a beat worth their time and effort, but it's still cool to hear these two click.
