Daily Dose: New York Fashion Week, Day Six

NYFW’s penultimate day was a flirty, romantic fever dream.

September 10, 2014

NYFW had an emotional Day Six, with loud, bold showings from Rodarte and Marc by Marc Jacobs. Diesel Black Gold slayed us with their vision of an American girl with a painted on smile and a bit too much glitter, while MM6 made us dream in colors we never knew existed. Check it all out, below.

Marc by Marc Jacobs

While we were a little distracted by the latex body suits and front-facing ponytails that turned his models into barbie cyber ravers, Marc Jacobs wielded a fun, light touch for his SS15 presentaiton. Impeccably cropped oxfords, twists and folds of patterned latex, imaginative coats: Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier may have feared the "second album syndrome," but they had nothing to worry about. See the entire collection here.

Sophie Theallet

Reggae music and island vibes squared the audience away for a Carribbean experience at Sophie Theallet's Spring presentation. Our favorite pieces were the ones that practiced restraint, rather than dabbling in literal interpretations of Jamaican culture (wavy details, red, green, and black hues). Diaphanous silk dresses and classic cuts are where Theallet found her strength. See the collection here.

MM6 Maison Martin Margiela

It would be really, really difficult to ascribe a specific "vibe," to MM6 Maison Martin Margiela's SS15 presentation. If we were to try our absolute hardest, we may end up somewhere in the fraught area of 'drowned orphan working at a Western theme park in rural Japan." That said, the collection was to die for: slouchy cowboy denim, silk used in new ways, poetically sad hair. Mixed bag of influences notwithstanding, we want it all. See for yourself, here.

Rodarte

If Rodarte's amplified resurrection of pierced eyebrows strikes fear into your heart, feel free to skip down the page. Rodarte's Spring offering was aggressively romantic, marrying lace, netting, sequins, and thigh high boots in a collection for the girl who dresses only for herself. Models stalked the runway in sunglasses or with their eyebrows pierced, giving a "fuck off" vibe that the clothes did not contradict. You don't want to mess with a pissed off equestrian. Diesel Black Gold

For grown up pageant girls with playful hearts. Diesel Black Gold fooled around with American themes in shapes that recalled a specific kind of Texan nostalgia. Pinafores, cheerleading outfits, halter tops studded with stars, Diesel Black Gold's show was a dazzling, studded rodeo. Check out Dazed's beautiful backstage photo diary, here.

Timo Weiland

Timo Weiland's vision of spring is exactly the spring we want for ourselves and for everyone we know in love. Painted in adorable shades of baby blue and petal pink, the sexy flirtatiousness of these matching two pieces and swingy dresses with cutouts, was stellar. Bared nipples for all come April!
