Twice a month, a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week, The FADER's style team talks about the essential items getting them through the craziness of New York Fashion Week.

Mobolaji Dawodu: I've basically been wearing the same shit for like ten years, same essential jeans as last year and the year before. The jacket is new, though. Old denim mixing with the new, newer denim and older denim. The jacket is cool, it's Levi's Commuter Collection. It's convenient for riding my bike around the city cause it has these motorcycle details and vents. During NYFW, I'm always on the go and I like to be comfortable and relaxed.

Deidre Dyer: My New York Fashion Week essential is this lucite Binky Choker from The Candy Kids. It's the perfect thing to wear because it's not too serious. People take fashion week and themselves extremely serious when it comes to style and I just don't. I like clothes that fit well and I like funny, weird accessories. I like the fact that it's a little rave-y and kooky in the midst of this hectic week. Sadly, a lot of New York street style is really fucking boring and it's only when you do things a little differently— without trying too hard though—that it's fun. The shows are about business more than creativity, so I just like to keep things light. I spend so many hours running around for post-show interviews and meeting photographers and organizing content. Anytime I run into a publicist or a fellow editor in between shows, they're pleasantly surprised by the playfulness of this choker, you know, "oh that's so fun, that's so rave-y." There's no one else running around with it.

Liz Raiss: I've stayed away from lip shit since my Juicy Tube days, fearing annoying upkeep and high maintenance vibes. In reality, lipstick can make life really, really easy. You can look like a Stepford wife or an alien, sweet as candy or a femme fatale all in, like, three seconds. I have really pale skin, dark hair, and dark eyebrows, so I try to keep it evening and go dark for my lipstick, too. In the sea of immaculately painted orange-red pouts that flood the streets during fashion week there's something that feels vaguely perverse about sitting at show and openly reapplying dark blackberry lipstick in public. I originally bought this Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Intense in Satin Blueberry for a Halloween costume and I've stuck with it ever since. A light layer and it looks like you've had a glass or two of red wine; a heavier-handed application gives evil porcelain doll vibes. I paired it here with vaguely schoolgirl digs because I want to be your nightmare but you can't go wrong teaming it with all white.
