High School Is Hypnotic: Watch a Trailer for Teen Movie Documentary Beyond Clueless

Earlier this year, we spoke with British film critic Charlie Lyne and he recommend eight movies from the turn of the century: some cult favorites, a couple forgotten gems, and some that were tragically misunderstood by the masses. What the films had in common, though, was that they all are featured—along with hundreds of others—in Beyond Clueless, Lyne's new, feature-length documentary that examines the oft-maligned "teen movie" genre with a combination of dewey-eyed nostalgia and a post-adolescent's critical gaze.  

We're very excited to debut the movie's first trailer; it features dreamy close-ups of instantly recognizable teenage artifacts: a football helmet, a glass bong, a prom queen's tiara, a dildo. It's set up against London-based duo Summer Camp's twinkling, soft-focus score and includes a voiceover snippet from the movie's narrator, actress Fairuza Balk. The documentary premiered at SXSW in March and has since been raking in favorable reviews, some of which flash across the screen during the trailer. While we're stuck in New York re-watching Jawbreaker for the billionth time, our West Coast homies can catch the doc's downtown Los Angeles premiere at Cinefamily on September 20th, where Lyne will appear in person.
