To call New York Fashion Week a cluster would be a massive, nearly criminal understatement. With over seven days worth of fashion stuffed in the calendar, it would be shame for some of the newer, smaller names to get lost in the hustle. We've pared it down to handful of runway shows and presentations we that we're definitely looking forward to in the coming days. Check them out now before it's too late, and remember to check out our NYFW coverage all week, right here.
CG Chris Gelinas
With a resume that name checks Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Balenciaga, and Theysken's Theory, the Canadian-born, Parsons-educated Gelinas has an solid pedigree to back his luxe line. Since being named a finalist for the LVMH prize, Gelinas has been living up to the prestigious award's hype. Playing with rich, unusual colors, billowing proportions and a kind of neo decadence reminiscent of 90's Gucci, CG Chris Gelinas is a name we're super excited about.
Devon Halfnight Leflufy
In a stark deviation from the complex black cuts we've come to expect from the Antwerp Avant-Garde, Royal Academy of Antwerp graduate Devon Halfnight Leflufy has an aesthetic as bright, whimsical, and surreal as his name. Playing with paint splattered leather, neon patterns, and a tangible love affair with sun bleached California culture, Leflufy's clothes feel nostalgic, loud, and ultramodern all at once.
Zoe Jordan
After studying architecture, Brit designer Zoe Jordan applied that sense of sculpture and scale to womenswear, bringing together a kind of modern day, ultra femme, Saville Row aesthetic. In Jordan's collections, tech-friendly fabrics and unsual yet flattering shapes marry, leaving us with pieces we want to wear, not just stare at.
The VFiles Made Fashion Crew: ZDDZ, D.TT.K, HAMM, Tigran Avetisyan
The VFiles' MADE picks this year are inspiringly fresh. United by an urban sensibility and focus on utilitarian fabrics (as well as a predilection for capital letters), their 4-way show (which will also be soundtracked by the VFiles/Def Jam DJ Contest winners), should be bolded and double underlined in your already overloaded iCals. These nascent lines were chosen for a reason, and their joint show should be an absolute spectacle.
