Warm Up Recommends: Kevin Saunderson on Eclair Fifi
This week, the Detroit techno pioneer recommends an acclaimed, on-the-rise Edinburgh DJ.
Every Saturday throughout New York's long hot summer, MoMA PS1 presents Warm Up, the museum's annual courtyard party that celebrates music's experimental spirit. Each week, The FADER will be speaking to one of the billed artists to find out who they're psyched about playing with. This week, Detroit techno pioneer Kevin Saunderson recommends Edinburgh DJ and LuckyMe affiliate Eclair Fifi. In addition to his Warm Up set, Saunderson will also play a late-night show tomorrow, August 23rd, at TBA Brooklyn from 1 - 4AM.
KEVIN SAUNDERSON: I played with Eclair Fifi in London. She had a lot of energy. She played right before me, and she actually played a couple of my songs. I’m like, “How did you know about that one?” It caught me off guard because it was one of the songs I hadn’t played in a long long time. I think it was a remix I did for Claude Vonstroke. That was my first contact with her. I loved what she was doing; she was cool, very humble, but she took care of her business. I just like her vibe. There’s so many talented women out here doing it just as good—if not better—than a lot of the male DJs that have been around for a while. Women have kind of taken the backseat in a lot of music, and in our scene it took some time, too. But now you see a lot of women DJs and producers like Eclair. I'm looking forward to seeing her. It's going to be good, definitely. She takes you back and she takes you forward. It’s a good time.
