There’s no one in the music industry I’m more likely to believe when he sings I made it here in my underpants than west London’s Only Real. From the very first batch of woozy psych-pop he stuck on Soundcloud in 2012 to his latest singles for Virgin EMI, Niall Galvin’s slacker tunes have got the kicked-back groove and sunny ambition of a Londoner writing tunes in his childhood home while dreaming of living in Cali. “Pass The Pain” is his latest, and it’s vintage Only Real: a killer melody floats along on dreamy surf guitars and falsetto melodies, but never gets too far without a nudge-nudge-wink-wink moment like that line about underpants and the goofy bridge, if you like it like me, we can make it booooo. Look out for Galvin’s upcoming debut album on Virgin, and catch him at CMJ later this year.
