It’s Official, Sort Of: Aphex Twin Has a New Album Coming
The elusive producer confirms what we were all suspecting….in his own cryptic way.
Most of us in this office didn't even know electronic music pioneer Richard D. James, better known as Aphex Twin, had a Twitter account. But he does—it's verified and everything. He used his ninth-ever tweet to share a link that cryptically confirms he has a new full-length in the works. The link can only be opened using a sketchy deep web platform (there's a less-informative version here that works in regular browsers), but Pitchfork nabbed a screenshot that implies the album is called SYRO and has 12 tracks. The announcement follows some other international buzz-building stunts: an Aphex Twin blimp hovering over London, logos stenciled into the pavement in New York. The record will presumably be released by 25-year-old British indie label Warp, who have been trying to extract new material from the famously elusive producer for a while now. For more, listen to James' long-lost Caustic Window record from 1994, which was unearthed earlier this year.
