The NBA has fined the Toronto Raptors $25,000, and it's all owing to their ever effusive global ambassador, Drake. Last week before drawing the curtains on OVO Fest, Drake paused to thank Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant for making the trip up north. In doing so, he made something of a pitch-- albeit a supremely casual one--to the NBA MVP.
“I just want to show one of my brothers something,” Drake told the crowd at his concert (watch above). “You know, my brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us. I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen.” The 416 crowd apparently responded in kind with a "KD!" chant. Durant loved it.
Because Drake holds an official position with the team, and because Durant is on contract with the Thunder until 2016, this sort of low-key recruitment is in violation of the league's evidently stringent anti-tampering rules. Started with a thank you, now someone's going to have to pay. Oops?
