We first caught the teasing, metallic strains of Shabazz Palaces' album opener “Dawn in Luxor” as the atmospheric backdrop to Kenzo’s SS '14 campaign video starring MC and producer Ishmael Butler. Now, finally, their full length Lese Majesty is up for streaming in its entirety via NPR. The album's 18 tracks blend sparse, glittering beats and otherworldly blips and echoes with Butler's straight-faced lyricism and jazzy vocals from Catherine Harris-White.
Shabazz Palaces has declared Les Majesty, “not a launching pad for the group’s fan base increasing propaganda,” but rather, “a series of astral suites of recorded happenings, shared. A dare to dive deep into Shabazz Palaces sounds, vibrations unfettered.” Apparently intended to be digested in seven suites with enigmatic names like “Touch & Agree” and “Murkings on the Oxblood Starway,” Lese Majesty is available free streaming until the end of the week, before going on sale July 29th via Sub Pop.
