It ain't about where we start, or where we end up/ it's about what we learn when we get in there... oh yeah, we getting there, LA-based K. Roosevelt sings on "Let It Go" toward the end of his six-track Journey EP. These wide-eyed lyrics could be applied to his amorphous crew--the R&B singer/songwriter emerges from Hit Boy's HS87 camp, whose recent We The Plug album boasts everything from bang-out rap anthems to dusty future R&B. There's a traceable musical journey from Hit Boy's days alongside Polow Da Don to his G.O.O.D music tenure that seems to have melded in the music of his understudies: the dreamy melodies, arena-ready drums and vocal-sample stabs that coat Journey all recall a sound that's heavy in season but still ripe. Who knows where it started, but K. Roosevelt wields it well across the project, with the style of a conservative Miguel and a pen that will grow sharper with time. Stream the project below and watch the video premiere of EP opener "The One" above.
