Tommy Ramone, the final surviving founding member of The Ramones, has passed away aged 65 at his home in Queens, the official Ramones Twitter account announced this weekend. Variety report that the drummer recently received hospice care following a diagnosis of bile duct cancer. Born Thomas Erdélyi in Budapest, Tommy met John Cummings (guitarist Johnny Ramone) at high school, and together with Joey and Dee Dee, went on to change New York and the world with fistfuls of lightning-flash punk in brief, perfectly formed songs. Tommy acted as drummer and co-producer on the iconic first three albums, Ramones, Leave Home and Rocket to Russia, honing a sound that he once described himself as "not unlike a fast drill on a rear molar."
