Atlanta Songwriter Suno Deko Shares “Bluets”

Gorgeous pop from a new Atlanta songwriter.

FADER PREMIERE

Suno Deko, the project of David Courtright, initially took shape when the Atlanta songwriter was living in India and, according to a press release, was built around themes of alienation and detachment. But "Bluets," this lovely five-minute introduction to his chamber-folk aesthetic, feels more hopeful than that inception suggests. It opens with a few loose strums and patiently adds more elements—vocals, a delicate riff, drums, more guitars—while remaining relatively sparse-sounding. The opening line (There's a hole inside of me where courage used to be) is sung so prettily that I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be a sad sentiment. The track will appear on Suno Deko's debut, the Thrown Color EP, out July 22nd via Berlin-based label Stratosfear. The release was mastered by Foxes in Fiction—aka Orchid Tapes co-labelhead Warren Hildebrand—and Courtright has upcoming shows with multi-instrumentalists like Mutual Benefit and How To Dress Well, which makes a lot of sense, considering. See those dates below.
