T-Pain’s “Up Down” Remix, with Boosie, Kid Ink, & B.O.B., Is Really an Entirely New Song

T-Pain continues his 2014 comeback with a totally refurbished version of DJ Mustard-produced hit Up Down, with verses from Lil Boosie, Kid Ink, and B.O.B.

T-Pain's been going through it the past few years, despite godfathering the Autotuned warbles that dominate Southern rap—he admitted earlier this year to the New Yorker that he lost pride in himself after being openly ridiculed by his peers. But there's currently no better way to stage a comeback than hopping on a zeitgeisty DJ Mustard beat, which is exactly what he did for last year's undeniable "Up Down" with B.O.B. (complete with an incredible early-90s-Atlanta video in which T-Pain sports a flat top). Today he shares its remix, and in the true Kellsian sense of the word, it's practically a whole new song until the last minute: Mustard's original beat is stripped and slowed to an ominous grind, and there's new guest verses from Lil Boosie and Kid Ink. T-Pain's fifth album, Stoicville: The Phoenix, is due out this year.
