In a Heineken-fueled video shot by Tyrese and posted to his Facebook page last night (then subsequently deleted), Dr. Dre seems to confirm the widely reported story that Apple is buying his and Jimmy Iovine’s Beats Electronics. The Financial Times broke the news yesterday, saying they're in talks for a $3.2 billion deal. Now it looks like that might've already happened; Tyrese's post had the caption: ""How did I end up in the studio with Dr Dre ON THE night his deal went public that he did with Apple 3.2 BILLION!!!!! The BEATS HEADPHONES JUST CHANGED HIP HOP!!!!!!"" Dre was already sitting pretty on the Forbes list—$550 million net worth, they say, which at the time placed him one spot below Diddy—and if the deal goes through, seeing that he's a majority owner in Beats, he'll surely become the richest man in rap. "The first billionaire in hip-hop, right here from the motherfuckin West Coast, believe me," he says in the above clip, setting Tyrese off into a crip walk and his accountant into conniptions.
Below, watch Dr. Dre's FADER TV interview from 2011, in which he says, “we’re trying to be second to Apple, I don’t think that’s a bad position.”
