From the infectiously bizarre spandex onesie she wore while performing in her band Chairlift’s “Amanaemonesia” music video, to writing “No Angel” for Beyoncé’s visual album, to her new alter-ego fueled solo project Ramona Lisa, singer Caroline Polachek has maintained a taut connection between elegance and strangeness. Two days after releasing her debut solo album, Arcadia, Polachek released a music video for the lush, doo-wop inspired “Dominic” on Vogue.com. The video, which she also directed and edited, follows her into a forest green prism, then a ramshackle rowboat through the Florida everglades. Her impeccable geometric green romper, perfectly cropped bangs and eyeball-esque manicure feels both complimentary and at odds with the raw marshland and alligator-infested waters, just as the tracks on Arcadia expertly cultivate discordancy out of Polachek’s total control of her voice.
