Divergent has a big deal soundtrack, as all YA-to-Blockbuster franchises seem to these days. There are songs from Ellie Goulding, Skrillex, BANKS and M83 (which came out yesterday), as well as a bunch of rather unexpected collaborations: A$AP Rocky and Gesaffellstein? Kendrick Lamar and Tame Impala? And oddest of them all, Pia Mia, Chance the Rapper-- and Clams Casino?
You might recognize Pia Mia, an Interscope signee who got her start as a YouTube cover star and a Kardashian hanger-on, as the girl who had the gumption to sing "Hold On, We're Going Home" in front of Kanye West and Drake himself during a Kardashian family dinner (or if you're truly kept up, you'll recall that she sang the hook on Kendall and Kylie's "Pee Song (Prod. by Juicy J)"-- seriously). Chance joining her here makes enough sense, because Chance seems open and eager to collaborate with whoever -- Justin Bieber, James Blake, Jeremih, etc. -- knowing he's agile enough to make whatever work. But you have to wonder: how did Clams Casino get wrapped up into this? Anyways, the product of their teamup, "Fight For You," is a little more straightforward than most Clams but still a little spacey. And overall, it's pretty good. Listen below.
