FADER PREMIERE
Gem Club's "Polly" is a swelling song with scarily simple lyrics, clearly meaning much—Polly/ Need you now that you're gone, repeated over and over—like a snake coiled inside of you, waiting to attack or maybe just nibbling slowly. Director Matthew Salton's music video is similarly simple-yet-complicated, ostensibly depicting a relationship between an older white woman and a younger black woman—or perhaps one of the partners is simply the projection of the other? Haunting in any case, a nut possibly impossible to crack. Gem Club's gorgeous sophomore album, In Roses, is out now via Hardly Art.
