Lolawolf, the three-person band comprised of Zoë Kravitz, James Levy and Jimmy Giannopoulos, have released their first EP. It's moody and mellow synth-pop, held together by Kravitz' smoky, relaxed voice. I saw Lolawolf open for recent GEN F pick Wet last night. Going in, I had doubts. Based on Kravitz's hollywood pedigree, I expected dilettantes doing their best, but a few minutes in I was completely enthralled by how regular Kravitz seemed. When she sang things like I want to know what love is/ I really hope that its not you, I believed her. On this album, she's a young person doing her best, just like the rest of us; as the band moved through their set last night, plastic cups of whisky lining the lip of the stage, I became a Lolawolf fan.
