"Special Jim," the second track released from Jersey rapper RetcH's forthcoming Polo Sporting Goods tape, recounts in cringing, heart-wrenching detail the story of watching a disabled kid get neglected by his single mom. He's disarmingly earnest without moralizing, and with a knack for seemingly insignificant details that he renders essential. Perhaps it's hasty, but I can't help but think this is one of the best-written rap songs of the year. Polo Sporting Goods, produced in its entirety by Chicago's Thelonious Martin, drops December 17.
