On stage last night at the Converse Rubber Track Studios in Brookyln, Atlanta rapper Trinidad Jame$ broke from his set to suggest that something might be rotten in the state of New York rap. "I remember when New York rap was the shit," he said. "Us in the South, us ‘bammas, we just did our own thing. But now we run y'all musically. That's crazy." He finished the thought this morning on twitter.
His comments riled the crowd and earned him a rebuke from Maino, but it doesn't sound like Jame$ will be taking anything back anytime soon. Tonight, back Atlanta on Streetz 94.5, he shared a new track called "L.I.A.A.R.$.," which stands for "Lame$ is Alway$ Acting Real….$ure." There's some name-dropping, lots of advice (some of it pertinent, like: Never hold your tongue, get it off your chest/ 'Cause if you hold your tongue, you gon' get depressed) and an entirely unrepentant hook: They say I'm going crazy, I know I'm going crazy, but I don't give a fuck. Remember that "All Gold Everything" pit bull puppy? Bet it's all grown-up now.
